“Pozita e gruas në Islamin e hershëm ka qenë me të vërtetë një pozitë shembullore, pozitë që duhet të studiohet dhe të njihet prej çdo gruaje, si edhe prej çdo liberacionisti në shekullin XXI”.

Disa tipare të kauzës feministe shkaktojnë zhgënjimin dhe madje kundërshtimin e grave muslimane mbasi mendimet apo reformat e kësaj lëvizjeje janë në kundërshtim të plotë me traditat e kulturës dhe të trashëgimisë fetare islame. Duke qenë se historia dhe trashëgimia e popujve muslimanë ka qenë radikalisht e ndryshme prej asaj të Evropës Perëndimore dhe Amerikës, feminizmi i cili do t’u apelonte grave muslimane dhe shoqërisë në përgjithësi, duhet të jetë përkatësisht i ndryshëm. Këto të drejta ligjore, të cilat gratë perëndimore i kërkuan në reformimin e Ligjit të Përgjithshëm Anglez, kanë qenë tashmë të pohuara për gratë muslimane në shekullin e 7-të. Me fjalë të tjera, që lëvizja feministe të ketë sukses në një ambient islam, ajo duhet të jetë një formë vendase e feminizmit, më mirë sesa një formë e konceptuar dhe e kultivuar në një ambient të huaj, me problem të ndryshme, me zgjidhje dhe synime të ndryshme.

Ndërsa në Perëndim, rrjedha kryesore e lëvizjes së grave, e ka shikuar fenë si një prej armiqve kryesorë të progresit dhe të mirëqenies së saj, gratë muslimane i vlerësojnë mësimet e Islamit si përkrahësin dhe mbrojtësin e tyre më të mirë. Porositë që gjenden në Kuran dhe në shembullin e Pejgamberit Muhamed (paqja qoftë mbi të dhe familjen e tij), vlerësohen si ideal drejt së cilit gratë bashkëkohore dëshirojnë të kthehen.

Të drejtat dhe privilegjet të cilat kanë arritur femrat evropianë pas presioneve në shoqëritë ku jetojnë dhe që i kanë arritur vetëm tani së fundi, Islami i ka rregulluar juridikisht për të gjitha gratë shumë shekuj më parë, pa qenë nevoja që ato të rebelohen për shpalljen e normave të tilla ligjore. Të drejtat e gruas në kohët moderne nuk u dhanë vullnetarisht apo vetëm si rezultat i përzemërsisë ndaj gjinisë femërore. Gruaja moderne arriti në pozitën e saj të tashme me anën e forcës.

Me qëllim që të arrinte deri në pozitën e sotme, gruaja luftoi me dekada dhe shekuj. Me qëllim që të fitonte të drejtën e mësimit dhe lirinë e punës dhe fitimit, asaj iu desh të ofronte sakrifica të dhembshme dhe të heqë dorë nga shumë të drejta të saj natyrore. Ajo pagoi shumë shtrenjtë që ta vendoste statusin e saj si një qenie njerëzore që posedon shpirt. Edhe pas të gjithë këtyre sakrificave të shtrenjta dhe luftërave të dhembshme, ajo ende nuk ka arritur atë që feja islame ka vendosur me dekretin hyjnor për gruan muslimane.
