Profeti Muhamed (s.a.a.) si komentator legjitim i Kuranit Fisnik, i shpjegoi më gjerësisht parimet dhe idealet e larta kuranore, për tolerancën dhe lirinë e besimit dhe me shembullin e vet vuri në jetë dhe i bëri traditë praktike edhe për brezat e ardhshëm. Nga tradita dhe praktika tolerante e tij po shkëpusim disa thënie ose ngjarje të shkurtra.

Në Mekë dhe Medinë gjatë kohës sa jetoi, në mesin e tij jetonin edhe bashkësitë fetare hebreje dhe të krishtera. Profeti Muhamed (s.a.a.) i quante ata ‘dhimmij’ – ‘të mbrojtur’, që do të thotë: ata që shteti islam e ka për detyrë t’i mbrojë. Ai tha: “Kush torturon një dhimmij, unë jam armik i tij dhe atë armiqësi do ta shfaq edhe në Ditën e Gjykimit”.

Njëri nga historianët e hershëm muslimanë, Muhamed ibn Is’hak (704 – 767), në librin e tij “Siretu Resulullah (Jetëshkrimi i Pejgamberit)” e rrëfen këtë ngjarje: “Një delegacion i përbërë tërësisht nga të krishterë prej Naxhranit[1] kishte ardhur te Profeti në Medinë. Ata hynë në xhaminë e Profetit në kohën e lutjes së namazit të pasditës. Kur u afrua koha e namazit edhe ata u ngritën për t’u lutur (falur). Të pranishmit deshën t’i pengonin, mirëpo Profeti që nuk miratonte një akt të tillë tha: “Lërini!” në këtë mënyrë ata kryen lutjen në kthyer në drejtim në Bejtul-Makdisit (Jerusalemit). [2]

Një ditë, gjersa Profeti (s.a.a.) ishte në Medinë, kalonte një kortezh mortor pranë tij dhe ai u ngrit në këmbë në shenjë respekti. Kur i thanë se kortezhi ishte i një hebreu, ai u përgjigj: “A nuk ishte qenie njerëzore?”[3] Pra, ky ishte Profeti Muhamed (s.a.a.), gjithmonë në fjalë dhe në vepra tolerant dhe i mirëkuptueshëm me ata që nuk mendonin dhe nuk besonin si ai.
