1.E ashpër, e vrazhdë, si populli i fuqishëm që e flet, por edhe plot shije e hijeshi, si frutat dhe lulet e malit ku flitet, gjuha shqipe – ndonëse e varfëruar nga një palëvrim shumë herë shekullor – është e aftë të shprehë, me një ndjenjë të mrekullueshme, nuancat, konceptimet më të holla e të mprehta të mendimit njerëzor. Shqiptarët duan para së gjithash dritën e mendjes dhe diellin. (Albania 8, 1897).

Vetëm shqiptarët e kanë ndjenjën e së bukurës aq të fuqishme sa e paguajnë me jetën e tyre kënaqësinë për të qenë vetë rrufeja mes atyre furtunave njerëzore të luftës. (Albania 3, 1897).

Rilindja e gjuhës sonë është rilindje e jetës sonë kombëtare. (Albania 8, 1897).

Gjuha shqipe është sa muskuloze aq edhe të brishtë. (Albania 12, 1898).

Shumë duhet të punojmë ne shqiptarët, sot dhe për së shpejti; po më parë nga të gjitha, të shëndoshim dashurinë dhe vëllazërinë në mes tonë. (Albania 2, 1897).

Përmirësimi ekonomik është nevoja më e shpejtë dhe më e ngutshme për vendin tonë. Është pra një detyrë urgjente që interesat ekonomike të Shqipërisë t’i paraprijnë çdo vlerësimi të karakterit politik. (Albania 16, 15-30 korrik 1898).

Ndjenja kombëtare ka rrënjë të forta në zemrat shqiptare; dhe ndonëse më ndonjë rast, moskokëçarja dhe moskuptimi i shqiptarëve gati na shkurajojnë dhe shkurajojnë gjithë miqtë e tyre të vërtetë, duhet pranuar se ndjenja kombëtare atyre nuk u mungon, por u mungon ajo vetëdije e qëruar, aq e domosdoshme për përparimin. Të përpiqemi me të gjitha forcat tona të shërojmë shqiptarët nga dashuria për individët. Ata duhet të mësojnë të duan Shqipërinë – jo t’i bëjnë qejfin këtij apo atij shqiptari. Shqiptarët honxhobonxho janë të tmerrshëm për mizori e kapadaillëk. (Albania10, 28 shkurt 1898).

Shqiptari duket si i bërë për të qenë lodër e një mashtrimi të përjetshëm; një fatalitet i dhimbshëm rri pezull mbi këtë popull të mjerë. (Albania 15-30 janar 1899 C).

Përgjegjësia jonë ndaj vendit është e pamohueshme: do vuajmë me vuajtjet e Shqipërisë, do gëzojmë me gëzimet e saj. (Albania 15-30 janar 1899 C).

Zgjidhja ideale do të ishte për shqiptarët të zhduknin njëherë e mirë ndikimet orientale, duke shkëputur çdo lidhje, fetare, morale apo letrare, qoftë me bizantinët, qoftë me turqit. Mirëpo, gjë e bukur të ndodhte kjo në çast. Zgjidhja do ishte e realizueshme po qe se stërgjyshërit tanë do ta kishin përgatitur me kohë për ne; atëherë neve do të na duhet ta përgatisim këtë zgjidhje për nipat tanë të ardhshëm. (Albania 2, 1907).

Duke u ngritur përmbi egoizmat e pafuqishëm dhe mëritë e pafrytshme vetjake, le të ulim kokat e të punojmë për formimin e një Shqipërie ku poshtërsia keqbërëse e armiqve tanë trashëgimtarë t’i lërë vendin drejtësisë dhe ndershmërisë së mëkëmbur të stërgjyshërve tanë. Boll duke krasitur degë kuturu, dhe me një vendosmëri të ftohtë por të pamëshirshme, le të japim goditjen përfundimtare në rrënjët e së keqes. (Albania 12, 1909).

Sa e sa marrëzi, sa e sa poshtërsi e krime janë bërë në emër të së gjorës Shqipëri! (Albania 4, 1907).

Dëshira për hakmarrje është susta më e fuqishme e shpirtit shqiptar. (Albania 4, 1907).

Një e thënë latine e Kohës së Mesme, e ndryshuar pak: Homo homini lupus – Njeriu për njeriun është ujk. Femina feminae lupior – Gruaja për gruan është më ujke. Albanus Albano lupissimus – Shqiptari për shqiptarin është fare ujk [ujk e shkuar ujkut]. (Albania, qershor 1902, nr.5).

Letërsia jonë popullore është ruajtur dhe përcjellë vetëm nga gratë e fëmijët dhe nuk mund të mos merrte veçse formën naive të gjuhës së tyre. (Albania 1, 1905).

Të mbetur pa unitet fetar, e vetmja lidhje që ka mbajtur shqiptarët të bashkuar ka qenë gjuha. (Albania 4, 1906).

Turqit turq mbeten; të rinj a të vjetër, ata janë, siç thotë shprehja latine popullore eiusdem farinœ [të të njëjtit brum]. Në tërë perandoritë që kanë ekzistuar a ekzistojnë, janë gjendur në kombin sundues mendje bujare për të marrë në mbrojtje kombet e nënshtruara. Po a mund të përmendet që prej katër shekujsh qoftë edhe një fjalë e vetme e një turku të vetëm në favor të Shqipërisë? Kjo fjalë vërtet do të meritonte në këtë rast të shkruhej e gdhendur mbi një pllakë bronzi dhe të varej në muret e klubeve tona popullore si një relikte kurioziteti. Turqit na mohojnë edhe ato cilësi që vëzhguesit e huaj i pranojnë njëzëri… Turqit na mundën, por pa arritur të na mposhtin, edhe pasi na imponuan Muhametin e tyre. (Albania 121 , nr 12, 1909).

Shqiptarët janë populli më mosbesues në botë. (Kujtesë për lëvizjen kombëtare shqiptare).

Asgjë nuk i ftoh më shumë shqiptarët se t’u thuash që kanë të bëjnë me një copë injoranti që i drejton. (Kujtesë për lëvizjen kombëtare shqiptare).

Populli shqiptar është mjaft i mprehtë në të kuptuar. (Kujtesë për lëvizjen kombëtare shqiptare).

Grekët e shpërdorojnë si shumë heshtjen përçmuese të shqiptarëve që nuk i hanë dokrrat e tyre bajate e boshe. (artikulli “Mbi Shqipërinë”, Libre Parole).

 

 

Njeriu është më i lig se egërsirat, po kur vështronj shqiptarët e Stambollit, më vjen të thom që është më i lig se gjarpri dhe miu. (Letër N. Nacos, 20 mars 1896).

Palla ime është penda; atë pallë të dobët kam, me atë përpiqem t’i shërbej atdheut. Fiunt scriptores nascuntur heroes [shkrimtarët bëhen, heronjtë lindin]. Ti që leve trim, bëje fora një herë jataganin për nder të Shqipërisë (F. Konica, Vepra 1, f. 155).

Shqiptari e ka zakon që kundërshton para se të marrë vesh. (Vepra 1, f. 187).

Kush nuk kupton përparimin, e merr kufirin e mendjes së tij për kufirin e botës. (Vepra 1, f.198).

Shqiptarët janë një komb të cilit i pëlqen të lëvdojë veten. Si thonë gojë-rrumbullët tanë, kombi shqiptar është i pari nga mendja, nga sjellja e nga trimëria. Sikur shqiptarët të qenë jo kombi më i mendshmi, por thjesht një komb i mendshëm, ata do të kishin dalë me kohë nga dita e zezë ku ndodhen. (Vepra 1, f. 271).

Trimëria e shqiptarit nuk është e artë, është e teneqejtë… sado e madhe në vetvete, është e vogël në shkaqet që e ndezin. Për një kec të grabitur, për një fjalë të shtrembër, dhe shumë herë pa e ditur as vetë përse, shqiptarët marrin armët, hidhen, vriten. Por, ata njerëz që vriten për interes e për përralla [dokrra], ftohen dhe frikësohen në u dashtë trimëri për ndonjë mendim të bukur, për ndonjë dobi të vërtetë e të përgjithshme… Nuk kanë frikë nga plumbi, po dridhen nga Valiu! trimëria e vërtetë është ajo që vihet në shërbim të së Drejtës dhe Atdheut, në shërbim të dobisë së përgjithshme. Të tjerat punë janë punë egërsie e kafshërie, jo trimërie. (Vepra 1, f. 271-272).

Shqipëria është një vend i bekuar me njëmijë bukurira, shkelur nga turmë e cila ushqen njëfarë urrejtje ndaj bukurisë. (Vepra 2, 34).

Shkodra është pothuaj vendi më interesant i Shqipërisë së sotme, argjendarët dhe punëtorët e tjerë të saj janë të famshëm në gjithë Europën e Jugës dhe të Lindjes… Shqiptarët janë të njohur për individualitet dhe në kostumin e tyre kombëtar ka varietete dhe ngjyra. Pothuaj çdo krahinë ka kostumet e saj të veçanta. (Shqipëria, 1930).

Ta dini se ne në sy të Evropës së qytetëruar, jemi të prapambetur, dhe asgjë më shumë; ca na shajnë, ca na përqeshin, ca të pakëve u vjen keq. Hiqni dorë ju them, se u bëmë palaçot e dheut. Heshtni, shtrohuni, bashkohuni. Udha që shpie në nder, në liri e në shpëtim, nuk është e shtruar me lule, po me ferra; kush arrin në kulm, arrin i grisur, i djersitur, i përgjakur; dhe kur arrin në kulm, bie i vdekur nga të lodhurit, por me vetëdijen që i hapi një udhë të re popullit. (Vepra, SH.B. N. Frashëri, f. 213).

Bëhuni burra! Rrëmbeni kazmat! Puna është më e lartë se trimëria, kazma më fisnike se palla. E mbi të gjitha heshtni! Jo fjalë, por kazmën. Jo mbledhje, por kazmën. Jo misione, por kazmën! Dhe parmendën, dhe draprin, dhe shoshën, dhe furrën. Mjaft lëvdime. E kam zemrën aq të mbushur me lot sa s’qaj dot. (F. Konica, Vepra, SH.B. N. Frashëri, f. 214).

Gratë e Tiranës janë shakaxhesha të mëdha. (F. Konica, Vepra, SH.B. N. Frashëri, f. 317).

Ka shqiptarë që sillen si këndesa të vërtetë e zemërohen posa zë të këndojë kokorikooo ndonjë tjetër si ata. Mjerisht në Shqipëri ka pak pula. Shqiptarët me mendje të nderuar s’duan e as kanë dashur njeri që del e thërret: “Unë jam!” Historia e Shqipërisë s’është përveçse vërtetimi i kësaj që themi. (F. Konica, Vepra, 3, f. 63).

Është një vend në faqe të dheut ku katilin e kanë për njeri të nderuar; hapen që t’i bëjnë udhë kur kalon; e fshehin nga i vetë-thëni gjyq, në iu tektë së vetë-thënës polici të bëjë sikur e kërkon; edhe në daltë ndonjë i çmendur për të marrë anën e kanunit [ligjit], e shajnë edhe e fëlliqin me një zell të çuditshëm. Dhe prandaj ai vend ka fituar një famë shumë të shëmtuar në botë… Për cilin vend po flas, do ta kuptoni menjëherë kur t’ju them që nuk ndodhet në mes të Afrikës, po në Europë. (Vepra 3, f. 169).

Armiqtë e Shqipërisë janë shqiptarët, jo të tjerë. Shqiptarët kanë shkruar me gjakun e tyre më tepër se një faqe në histori të Evropës. Nga më të voglat trazira gjer në luftërat më të gjakta, shqiptari ka hequr hark, vërvitur kordhë a zbrazur pushkë. A ka gjë më të turpshme, më të ulët se historia e këtij kombi që, për pak të qelbur ergjent [të holla], shet mish njeriu në çdo luftë, edhe kujt s’i erdhi dëshirim nga aq qindra vjet që e shkelin dhe e kurvërojnë të huajt, s’i erdhi dëshirim të japë dy pika gjak për lirinë e vetvetes? Të donin shqiptarët lirinë e Shqipërisë lehtazi e bëjnë; por rrinë të patundur dhe kështu dëftojnë që s’e duan Shqipërinë, dëftojnë që janë armiqtë e saj. (Albania 1, vëllim A, 1897).

Dua të marr shpatën e t’u çajë kokën gomarëve, edhe në vend të trurit të kllasë këtë: ç’është liria?… Më mirë të shesë pleh njeriu, se të shkruaj për shqiptarët… ç’është liria: Liria është të mundet njeriu: 1. të besojë ç’i do zemra; 2. të thotë ç’i do zemra; 3. të shkruaj ç’i do zemra; 4. të bëjë ç’i do zemra, veç jo ato që janë kundër lirisë së tjetrit njeri. Por shqiptarët, më të shumtë janë shpirtrobër… sundon në shpirtrat e tyre feja… Vëllezër shqiptarë: Mjaft rrojti e mjera Shqipëri jetën e Kurmit. Duhet edhe ajo të nisë tani të rrojë jetën e mendjes. Jeta e mendjes është të hapim tërë zemrat tona, të flasim vëllazërisht njëri kundër fjalës së tjetrit, të kuvendojmë si njerëz të qytetëruar, që mblidhen e luftojnë me fjalë [shoqërisht] për idetë e tyre… kështu do njihemi më mirë, s’do kemi mendime të fshehura, dhe do të KUPTOJMË që të tërë jemi të lidhur me dy lidhje të arta: dëshirimi i së Vërtetës dhe dëshirimi i Shqipërisë. (Albania 2, 25 prill 1897).

Ç’ka të bëjë myslimanëria apo krishterëria me shqiptarësinë? Myslimani të jetë mysliman, i krishteri i krishterë; po Shqipëria është e ne të gjithëve dhe e të gjithëve është detyra të mendohemi e të bëjmë si është më mirë për të. (Albania 2, 25 prill 1897).

Shqiptarët nuk ndahen në të krishterë e në muhamedanë, po ndahen në dy anë: ana e kombëtarëve, në të cilën ka shqiptarë nga të gjitha besimet, dhe ana e zuzarëve. (Vepra 3, f. 75).

Duhet të mësohen shqiptarët të mos shohin prapa atdhetarit fenë e njeriut. (Vepra 3, f. 127).

Ne duam të bëjmë një komb shqiptar, dhe për këtë punë kemi nevojë për bashkim të të gjitha pakicave të Shqipërisë me shumicën shqiptare. As që mund, një shqiptar që duket sot për sot i kulluar, të lëvdohet se 1000 a 2000 vjet më parë, fëmijëria e tij ish shqiptare. Ndofta po, ndofta jo. S’mund të hipim gjer te Adami a gjer te protistet e profesorit Haeckel. Si ka mijëra e mijëra shqiptarë të sllavizuar, ashtu ka pasur prej racash të tjera të tretur në racën shqipe. (Vepra 3, f. 136).

Duke parë dhe duke dëgjuar, bota mësojnë mend dhe ndërtohen. Ne shqiptarët, s’marrim dot mësime; malet të tunden dhe të rrëkëllehen, ne nuk këmbejmë mënyrën tonë. Mbani mirë këtë që po ju them: në njëqind vjet, në vafshim si po vemi, do të jemi aq poshtë sa edhe sot. (Vepra 3, f. 15).

Shqiptarët e mjerë presin që Evropa të vijë sot a nesër t’i shpëtojë. Është nevojë të themi, të bërtasim të vërtetën: Evropa shqiptarët i ka për të egër e për të humbur… Le të themi pra të vërtetën, gjithnjë të vërtetën,… të përpiqemi t’i fryjmë popullit tonë pak jetë e pak guxim. (Vepra 3, f. 81).

Të mos humbasim kohë të kërkojmë bashkim me anën e atyre që përpiqen të mbushin taskën, që tallen me mjerësinë e popullit shqiptar dhe që kanë vetëm një vesë: fitimin, dhe një dashuri: argjendin [paranë]. Me këta, jo vetëm bashkimi nuk bëhet, por është edhe i rrezikshëm. … Këta duhet t’i godasim pa pushim e pa mëshirë. Një miqësi me të poshtrit, nuk duam. (Vepra 3, 83).

Ne jemi një komb i ftohtë, ku secilido mendon për veten e tij… Ata shqiptarë për të cilët bota thonë se janë “të egër”, shqiptarët e maleve e të pyjeve, ata s’janë të ftohtë, por përkundrazi, janë shqiptarë të mirë e do të ishin atdhetarë sikur të kish njerëz t’u jepnin të kuptonin [t’i ndërgjegjësonin]. (Vepra 3, f. 100).
49. Dëshiri i nxehtë i grave është një sëmundje fort e rrallë në Shqipëri: e kanë vënë re të gjithë se kombi shqiptar mund të quhet i ftohtë në këtë punë. (Vepra 3, f. 143).

Frika, kur është e madhe, në vend që ta mposhtë njeriun, ia forcon, ia galvanizon nervat dhe frikaçi sillet (jashtërisht) posi trim i vërtetë…. Edhe trimëria, s’është trimëri e vërtetë pa frikë: se trimi pa frikë, s’bën ndonjë punë të rëndë, të çuditshme, me vlerë a me meritim… Le t’u japim bashkatdhetarëve tanë të kuptojnë shumësinë e formave të trimërisë. Trimëria me pallë, trimëria e luftëtarit nuk është e vetmja trimëri… Është trim çdo njeri që ka zemrën të sillet sipas mendimeve të tija, të bashkojë punët me fjalët… Një formë trimërie që e kemi përditë në sy është trimëria e grave. Numri i nënave trimëresha është i habitshëm – dhe ndofta pak vende mund të lëvdohen të kenë nga ajo farë trimërie aq sa ka Shqipëria. (Vepra 3, 149-151).
