Legjenda e boksit Muhamed Ali vdiq në moshën 74-vjeçare, pas një beteje 32-vjeçare me sëmundjen e Parkinsonit.
Ali ndërroi jetë në Feniks të shtetit Arizona, ku prej tri ditësh mjekohej nga komplikime të frymëmarrjes.
Fillimisht ai quhej Cassius Clay dhe kishte lindur në një familje të klasës së mesme. E nisi boksin kur ishte 12 vjeç dhe, në vitin 1960, mori pjesë në Lojërat Olimpike të Romës, ku fitoi një medalje ari për peshën e lehtë.
1 – Ai e ka ndryshuar emrin më shumë se një herë
Njeriu, miti, legjenda…emri. Dihet që Cassius Clay vendosi të ndryshojë emrin e tij në Muhamed Ali pas konvertimit të tij në mysliman, por shumë pak dinë për planet e tij për një tjetër emër. Në fillim ai mori emrin Cassius X, në nder të Malcolm X, por ishte lideri politik Elijah Muhammad që i dha përfundimisht emrin Muhamed Ali.
2 – Ai ishte sufist (sufizmi: një dimension mistik i brendshëm i islamit)
Është e dokumentuar mirë se më 28 prill 1967, Ali refuzoi të hynte në Ushtrinë Amerikane. Ali, si mysliman që ishte, citonte arsye fetare për vendimin e tij për të hequr dorë nga shërbimi ushtarak.
Më parë, ai ishte i përfshirë në qëllime militante të Kombit të Islamit, por më vonë ai kaloi në një sekt më mistik islam. Në vitin 2005 ai njoftoi se ishte Sufi, duke thënë se nga të gjitha sektet e islamit ai e ndjente veten më afër me sufizmin.
Sufizmi është ndoshta sekti më paqësor i çdo minoriteti fetar. Sipas tyre nëse dëmton një person dëmton gjithë njerëzimin.
3 – Atij iu desh të luftonte i lënduar gjatë rikthimit të tij të madh
Alisë iu desh të largohej me detyrim për 3 vjet e 7 muaj nga vendi pas refuzimit të hyrjes në forcat e armatosura. Ai u rikthye për t’u ndeshur me kundërshtarin numër 1, Jerry Quarry.
Ai do të shkonte për të bërë një rikthim të suksesshëm në ring, duke e hedhur nokaut që në raundin e tretë. Por ndeshja edhe mund të anullohej, pasi Ali kishte frakturë në një nga brinjët e tij.
Pra luftoi i dëmtuar.
4 – Sëmundja e Parkinsonit i mësoi atij mënyra të reja për të komunikuar
Arti i gjesteve ishte mjaft i rëndësishëm për të, thotë Miller për Ali që u diagnostikua me Parkinson në vitin 1982 në moshën 42-vjeçare. Ai komunikonte me duart, gishtat, mimikën e fytyrës si dhe sytë e tij.
5 – Ai ishte një magjistar amator
“Noton si flutur e djeg si bletë, duart e tij nuk godasin dot gjërat që nuk ja shohin sytë,” është një nga tekstet e tij muzikore, pas të cilës ishte shumë i apasionuar.
Ali gjithashtu bënte disa truke të vogla, numra shpejtësie. Ai i surprizonte vizitorët si prestigjator amator që ishte. Arrinte të zhdukte shallin e kuq në dorë, ose një monedhë të vogël.
