3. Quhet sindroma Down, jo Down-et, dhe individët që kanë sindromën Down nuk janë sindroma Down. Sindroma Down nuk përcakton individin, ajo është thjesht një pjesë e asaj çka janë këta individë.
4. Individët nuk kanë sindromën Down “te lehte” ose “të rëndë”. Aftësia nuk varet nga kushti gjenetik por nga individi. Individët ose e kanë sindromën Down ose nuk e kanë atë.
5. Ndryshe nga perceptimi i krijuar, individët me sindromën Down nuk janë gjithmonë të lumtur. Ata përjetojnë çdo emocion.

7. Ndonëse ka disa tipare fizike karakteristike tek individët me sindromën Down, këta individë ngjasojnë me shumë me familjaret e tyre sesa me njëri-tjetrin.
8. Tiparet e fytyrës së një individi nuk përcaktojnë aftësinë kognitive të tij. Vetëm sepse dikush ka disa prej tipareve fizike karakteristike të sindromës Down, nuk do të thotë që ka nivel inteligjence më të ulët. Gjithashtu dhe sepse dikush ka tipare fizike të sindromës Down pak më të dallueshme, nuk do te thotë që inteligjenca e tyre është më e lartë.
9. Do të merrni atë çka prisni dhe nuk do të zhgënjeheni! Thjesht sepse një fëmijë ka sindromën Down, kjo nuk do të thotë që ata nuk janë të aftë të sillen mirë ose të ndjekin udhëzimet. Fëmijët me sindromën Down janë të zgjuar. Atyre ju duhen disa minuta për të kuptuar pritshmëritë (apo komandat) për të reaguar apo përgjigjur.
10. Janë tre lloje të sindromës Down: 1. “Trizomia 21 e pashkëputur” është më e hasura. Të gjitha qelizat kanë një kromozom shtesë . 2. Sindroma Down e formës “Translokacion”, ndodh kur një pjesë kromozomit 21 bashkëngjitet (translokohet) në kromozomet e tjera. Fëmijët me sindromën Down të formës translokacion kanë zakonisht dy kopje të kromozomit 21, por ata gjithashtu kanë material shtesë nga kromozomi 21 i bashkëngjitur kromozomit të translokuar. 3. Sindroma Down e formës Mozaik, ndodh kur vetëm disa qeliza kanë një kromozom shtesë por qelizat e tjera në trup janë me 46 kromozome.
11. Të gjithë individët me sindromën Down përjetojnë një vonesë kognitive, por efekti është zakonisht i lehte deri në të moderuar dhe nuk është tregues i shumë pikave të forta dhe talenteve që mund të ketë secili individ me sindromën Down. (National Down Syndrome Society).
12. Jo të gjithë fëmijët/ individët me sindromën Down janë njësoj. Të njohësh dikë me sindromën Down, nuk do të thotë që të gjithë individët me sindromën Down janë të njëjtë. Ne jemi të gjithë individë, pavarësisht sa kromozome kemi.
13. Fëmijët më të mëdhenj në moshë dhe të rriturit me sindromën Down janë të ndërgjegjshëm që kanë këtë sindromë.
14. Të rriturit me sindromën Down nuk janë të destinuar për të qenë “fëmijë përjetë”, por të rritur që kane këtë sindromë.
15. Fëmijët me sindromën Down performojnë më mirë në një mjedis mësimor gjithëpërfshirës dhe shokët e shoqet e tyre të kopshtit/shkollës përformojnë më mirë kur mësojnë për diversitetin, dashamirësinë dhe miqësinë në moshe të hershme. Në klasat gjithëpërfshirëse mësojnë dhe përfitojnë të gjithë fëmijët.
16. Individët me sindromën Down kontribuojnë në familjet e tyre, në shkolla, në ambiente pune me kolegët e tyre dhe në shoqëri.
17. Vëllezërit dhe motrat e individëve me sindromën Down nuk ndikohen negativisht nga prezenca e tyre në familje, madje ndodh e kundërta. Pjesa më e madhe raportojnë që marrëdhënia e tyre është një ndër dhuratat më të mëdha në jetët e tyre.
18. Shumë të rritur më sindromën Down ndjekin kolegjet, kanë një punë ose martohen.
