Muaji i Ramazanit – muaj i bamirësisë
Ramazani është muaji i nëntë i kalendarit Islam. Ky muaj zgjatë 29 ose 30 ditë bazuar në vëzhgimet pamore të hënës së re dhe sipas llogarive të shumta të hartuara në hadithe.
Fjala Ramazan vjen nga arabishtja Ramaḍān (رمضان) që do të thotë vapë ose thatësirë. Agjërimi është një nga pesë shtyllat e Islamit dhe zgjatë nga agimi deri në perëndimin e diellit.
Në Ramazan shtohet bamirësia dhe shpërndahet mëshira ndaj njerëzve në nevojë. Bamirësia është çdo herë e rëndësishme për Islamin, dhe akoma më shumë gjatë muajit të shenjtë të Ramazanit. Një nga shtyllat kryesore të Islamit është detyrimi që të pasurit duhet t’u dhurojnë një shumë të caktuar, monetare apo ushqimore, të varfërve. Në Islam, të gjitha veprat e mira shpërblehen më shumë kur kryhen gjatë muajit të Ramazanit. Si rezultat, pjesa më e madhe e njerëzve vendosin që të japin pjesën e tyre të dhurimeve gjatë këtij muaji. Një pjesë tjetër mund të dhurojë sasi më të mëdha se ajo e caktuar, me qëllim që të rrisin shpërblimin në Ditën e Gjykimit. Shumë xhami dhe organizata fetare, çdo mbrëmje ofrojnë falas vakte iftari për të varfrit.
